In an apparent symbolic gesture, the "Proud to be American" sticker prominently displayed on Selma Kahr's rural Wisconsin mailbox has started to fade, reporters with inside sources declared Wednesday.
The fading of the patriotic sticker parallels Mrs. Kahr's own growing feelings of mistrust and skepticism in regards to the Bush Administration. Although she describes herself as a "born-again bleeding-heart conservative libertarian," she admitted to having voted for Bush at least once in the past.
"I thought Bush would protect us from Osama Bin Laden here in Oconomowoc. I mean, we've got the dairy factory, and Wal-Mart. There's lots of targets here, and I won't even start in on Wautoma or Oshkosh," Kahr told us over the phone.
"But now I'm skeptical. Something isn't right about this whole thing. I guess I'm sort of glad that the sticker is fading off the mailbox. These days, I'm thinking more along the lines of a sticker that says 'Proud to support the US Constitution."
